Between Denver and Summit County (about an hour from Breck and 40 minutes from Silverthorne), you can find yourself at the base of the 14th tallest 14er in Colorado at 14,264 feet - Mt. Evans.
It also happens to be the highest paved road in North America! On the 15-mile one-way drive, you can stop at Mount Goliath Nature Center, Summit Lake Park and can park and walk to the Summit of Mount Evans! Don't miss your chance to scale your very own 14,000+ foot mountain! Mount Evans employs a timed entry reservation system and each private motor vehicle entering the area will need a reservation. Tickets for this summer will become available in May 2022.
When it comes to summer hiking, Breckenridge has it all. In order for you to get the best hiking experience, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite summer hikes in Breckenridge that will get you to places beyond imagination and into nature.
If you’re looking for a Vail area (about 1 hour from Breck & 35 minutes from Silverthorne) whitewater adventure that involves doing something a bit different from the usual raft trip, try a Timberline Tours duckie float trip on the Upper Colorado River. A duckie is an open inflatable kayak, and you can either paddle your own single-person duckie or share a two-person duckie with a friend. Duckie float trips are great fun for the whole family, and the Upper Colorado River provides the perfect location for learning how to paddle in a place that will awe you with its stunning natural beauty.
Via Ferrata /vee-uh•fur-aht-ta/ (Italian for "Iron Road") - A mountain route equipped with fixed ladders, cables, and bridges.
A via ferrata is a way to traverse across and up a cliff-face by walking across iron bars that have been inserted into the rock face. Via Ferratas trace back to the 19th century, however, they are most famously known for their presence in World War I where they were built in the Italian Dolomite mountain region to help troops move throughout the rocky terrain.
The Mount Evans Via Ferrata is on the cliffside in Idaho Springs, a historic mining town just 1 hour from Breck and 40 minutes from Silverthorne. This course is complete with a 50 foot free fall, 70 foot rappel and multiple suspended bridges situated 300 feet above Chicago Creek. You even get to do 3-lines of the Cliffside Zipline course.

Breckenridge is home to some of the best fly fishing waters in the state of Colorado. With numerous rivers, streams, alpine lakes and reservoirs all within an hour of downtown, there’s a destination to match nearly all interests and skill levels. With so many options to choose from, knowing where to go and what the fish will be biting on can be a bit daunting. One of the newest warm-weather adventures available in Breckenridge — a Colorado canopy zipline adventure! From Breckenridge, there are multiple zipline courses in Idaho Springs (just 1 hour from Breck and 40 minutes from Silverthorne).
Colorado Adventure Center's Canopy Tour in Idaho Springs is among the highest and tallest in Colorado with 65′ tall wooden towers that make up the course.
If you want to head the other direction to Leadville (45 min from Breck), you can ride the Top of the Rockies zipline featuring a 100' tower.
AVA offers zipline trips at two locations: Idaho Springs and Granite (both about 1 hr from Breck). These zipline courses are some of the most unique in Colorado, with the platforms built into the natural landscape rather than on top of towers, and enhanced by various features such as the 50 foot free fall, a Surf Zip, a Race Zip, Via Ferratas, a variety of bridges, and much more!
E-Bikes allow the fun of riding a bike outdoors, but with the support of a motor! We enjoyed our 1st e-bike adventure while in Crested Butte, and despite moving the wedding to Summit County, wanted to share the fun we had with our guests! SILVERTHORNE: Standing alongside Silverthorne’s busy Blue River Parkway (CO Route 9) is a structure Summit County visitors and locals frequent, called the Mint. The Mint is currently a popular restaurant specializing in steaks and other meats customers can grill themselves. But the bar, where patrons now drink to wait for their tables, has been through more Summit County history than any living person. The history of the Mint building dates back to 1862.
